Typically, Retirement communities offer studio, one and two-bedroom apartments which include utilities. Some have full kitchens plus a dining room, and some offer kitchenettes but provide daily meals as part of their "package". Often, housekeeping and linen service is included as part of their service offerings as well as transportation to appointments, shopping, banking, etc.
Residents typically have access to a library, a computer center, a TV/entertainment room, fitness center, laundry, etc. Retirement communities are staffed 24 hours a day and are secure. Many feature secure parking and amenities such as a beauty salon, community garden, and gift/convenience shop. Often, pets are allowed.
Retirement communities are not appropriate for seniors needing ongoing medical or hygiene support or who are not able to do most things for themselves.
